President's Message

On July 1, 1978 (30 years ago), Utah's Governor signed legislation driven by then Senate President Haven J. Barlow and the Utah State Legislature creating the Davis Area Vocational Center with an established mission of providing technical education to the citizens of the state.

In the late 1980's, the legislature changed the name to Davis Applied Technology Center, and in 2001, created the Utah College of Applied Technology. This placed governance of the applied technology colleges throughout the state under the Utah State Board of Regents. At this time, the institution's name was changed to Davis Applied Technology College.

Davis Applied Technology College has distinguished itself regionally and nationally as a premier technical education institution. During July 2008, we will celebrate thirty years of passionate faculty and staff commitment to serve our students and assist each one in achieving their highest potential and career success. In reflecting on thirty years of service, it is most significant and satisfying to consider the thousands of students who are currently working in the careers for which they were trained as students of the Davis Applied Technology College. We are also proud of the thousands of students who have continued their education receiving bachelors, masters and doctorate degrees in Engineering, Nursing, Business, Finance, Medicine and Culinary Arts. The true measure of our success is mirrored in the success of our students and the satisfaction of our employer customers.

The economy in Utah remains the strongest in the nation with job growth at 4.5% in 2007, compared to 1.3% nationally. The Davis Applied Technology College can significantly assist you in your career pursuits through our time-proven, market-driven technical training programs matched to industry requirements of the local economy. Our employed students enjoy salaries well beyond the county average and many employers assist our students with additional education and career advancement. Our thirty-year training methods will help you qualify and meet your career dreams and aspirations.

During the upcoming year we will celebrate thirty years of success with our alumni, partners, stakeholders, government and legislative leaders. We invite everyone from all walks of life to join our success by enrolling at our institution and participating in our heartfelt mission philosophy of "We Change Lives." In addition, we encourage all who are considering enrollment at Davis Applied Technology College to join our great team and experience the success thousands of other students have experienced throughout our thirty years of service to the community.
