Since the Foundation was established as an independent entity in 1999, contributions in cash, physical assets and commitments have totaled more than $10 million in donations. Although scholarship funding is still a major component of the Foundation’s giving, the focus also includes major enhancements for the College. This past year, the Foundation awarded more than $130,000 in scholarship funding assisting numerous individuals. Because of the Foundation scholarships, these individuals moved from assistance programs, regained self esteem and provided economic benefits to the area. Also, through the Foundation’s annual golf tournament, many students have been able to accomplish their goals of financial independence. A total of $391, 274 net has been raised through the golf tournament since 2002! With the reduction in funding from the legislature, the Foundation is playing an increasingly important role in the development of the College and will continue to do so in the future. As the College expands and grows, so will the additional requests for major funding and increased scholarships.

College Priorities

As a Foundation we are committed to assisting in areas which are priorities for the College to assure continued excellence in training and education.

Scholarships

More than 70% of our adult students are in the low to moderate income level and are eager to move forward and become financially independent. The Foundation is seeking additional scholarship funding allowing those wishing to enjoy the benefits of economic independence through training to have that opportunity. Scholarships make great things possible. Named scholarships and projects are warmly welcomed. “John & Jane Doe Family” is a great way to position your donation.

Need: Continued funding through private scholarships, perpetual scholarships, the alumni fund, memorial funds, need-based scholarships, specific purpose scholarships.

Morgan Entrepreneurial Center

After several years of collaborating with Morgan City and County, it now appears that the purchase of property is going to take place during the coming year. The Foundation will be able to utilize funds from a Community Development Block Grant and begin providing entrepreneurial opportunities in Morgan County. The Morgan Educational/Economic Development Facility will be used to nurture young companies and help them to survive and grow during their start-up periods when they are most likely to fail. The Center will provide assistance with business training and management, funding source location, and technical support along with educational opportunities for high school students. Need: Private involvement to expand this facility into a full service training center.

Virtual Reality Arc Welder

archweldinga state of the art virtual welder that can train welding students without having to use actual supplies will be of benefit to the students, employers and the College. The Foundation will work with the manufacturer of this virtual welder as well as contact private donors to secure the $55,000 necessary to purchase this item. Need: Community assistance and private donors assisting with the acquisition of this virtual arc welder.

Virtual Healthcare Training Center

nursingroom.jpgIn 2008, $150,000 of private contributions helped fund a new Virtual Healthcare Training Center at the DATC. This training center has 5 “hospital rooms” and computerized “virtual patients” which prepares students to a higher level, relieves a portion of the pressure on the hospitals for clinical time slots, addresses some of the nursing shortages, and becomes a center for continuing and upgrade training for healthcare professionals. Total cost for each simulated patient is $35,000 each.

Need: Funding for a virtual sim-baby and sim-newborn to prepare students to provide care for babies in intensive care units like Primary Children’s Medical Center and other area facilities.

Flag Pavilion

flagpavilion.jpg This flag pavilion will be placed in an under utilized area on the east side of the campus between the main building and the Barlow Technology Building. It is designated to recognize the major DATC partnerships and will also be an outstanding outdoor gathering place for students. The estimated cost for the entire project is $35,000 which will be raised through private donations.

Need: Private donors interested in this beautification project with naming recognition available.

Medical Building

medicalbuilding.jpg nearly 45% of the DATC’s total enrollment in the medical and dental programs, this area of high enrollment and strong growth needs funds for expanded training space. Preliminary plans have been draw up for a 65,000 square foot medical building to be located on the southeast side of the main building. This facility will house all of the allied health training programs offered at the College. It will also contain a student study center and a flexible gathering/meeting space with seating capacity for 500 people which can be utilized for larger gatherings, graduation ceremonies along with multiple training activities. At this time, the Foundation is exploring potential donors with various levels of naming opportunities including naming the building and multiple spaces within the facility. The projected cost of this project is $22.5 million co-funded in the future with legislative assistance Need: The Foundation is committed to seeking private funding for a 65,000 square foot building, which will consolidate the Medical and Dental programs into one location and allow for growth.

Legacy Gift Programs

As a Foundation, we are aware of the great need to continue involving the community in a partnership with the College. Through this level of collaboration, we will build a viable, strong, long-term future for education and training in our area.

By leaving a legacy, each of us can “pay back” some of the assistance we may have received during our lifetime. Perhaps you were given a scholarship that made your dream of an education a reality.

We need you to help us continue providing educational opportunities to the people in our area, give deserving students the ability to become financially independent, and build a strong, bright future for our younger neighbors.

How can you Help?

Allow the DATC Foundation to show you how you can become involved in the educational process and help us develop a mechanism to fund some of the critical needs that are not funded through state appropriations or tuition revenue. You are an essential partner with the Foundation and the College.

Why Give?

In life, most people require and receive some kind of assistance. Although state assistance, tuition and fees are available, they do not fully fund the training opportunities at the Davis Applied Technology College.

Partnerships with other foundations, corporations, former students and those of our community are vital to the success of our students and this institution.

We need your assistance to continue providing educational opportunities to the 74% of our adult students who are in the low to moderate income level and need financial aid in order to become economically stable.

Opportunities to Give?

Take this opportunity to work on a confidential basis with our Foundation and your financial advisors to make a difference in the life of some deserving individuals.

How to Give?

There are numerous ways to give now and in the future, to leave a legacy. Through the Davis Applied Technology College Foundation Legacy Gift Program, there are numerous options to fit your specific needs and desires. These gifts include:
