The Medical Assistant program includes classroom work and hands-on skill practice. Students learn laboratory testing, phlebotomy, vital signs, medication administration, and other patient care skills to assist physicians. Upon completion of the primary courses, the student completes a non-paid externship in a medical office. Students in this program are trained in all aspects of medical office practice including administrative tasks and back office clinical tasks.

Application Process

Verify you meet program Admissions Requirements
Complete the DATC Admissions process:
  • Complete the DATC Admissions Application
  • Pay the $40.00 fee online or to the cashier in Student Services
  • Take the Admissions Assessment in the DATC Testing Center in Student Services
  • Attend a DATC orientation (held every Tuesday at 2:00 p.m.)
Meet with an Enrollment Technician in Student Services to receive a Medical Assistant Program Application
Prior to submitting the program application, prospective students may enroll in the Medical Office Program and begin the following courses:
  • BTEC 1110 Computer Literacy
  • BTEC 1510 Business English
  • MATH 1000 Math I
  • WKSK 1400 Workplace Relations
  • WKSK 1500 Job Seeking Skills
  • MEDA 1100 Medical Terminology
  • MEDA 1200 Medical Law and Ethics
  • MEDA 1300 Psychology for Healthcare Professionals
Submit a Program Application during the following application dates: Dec 5-9, 2011; Feb 6-10, 2012; April 2-6, 2012
Following acceptance into the program, attended a scheduled program orientation with the Medical Assistant program instructor
Start classes on one of the assigned dates: Nov 1, 2011; Jan 3, 2012; Mar 5, 2012; May 1, 2012
