DATC Apprenticeship Open House
KAYSVILLE, UT – On Thursday, April 29, 2010 from 6-8 p.m., Davis Applied Technology College (DATC), a UCAT Campus, will host a ribbon cutting and open house for its new apprenticeship lab and classroom (Room #1051). The general public is invited to participate and refreshments will be served.
The new apprenticeship lab is filled with state-of-the-art technology for students interested in entering the programs of Plumbing and Electrician Apprenticeship.
For the past 10 years, the program has shared space in a small shop, but due to the construction of DATC’s Manufacturing Technology building last year, the Apprenticeship program has expanded into what was a machine tool lab, to provide ample space for this sought-after training.
DATC’s Apprenticeship program not only received a fresh coat of paint, but it now offers:
- Separate training facilities for plumbers and electricians
- A live “wet” lab for plumbing students
- Mockup labs for electricians
- Four new classrooms
- New audio/visual equipment, including projectors and computers
- New furnishings provided by an anonymous donor
- Tables donated by DATC’s Welding program
Bryce Chapman, DATC Apprenticeship Coordinator, says “The new lab gives our students training consistent with industry. They get hands-on experience as well as an opportunity to dive into the curriculum and take the state test.”
The 85 plumbing and 90 electrician apprenticeship students are ecstatic for the upgraded space. “It’s benefiting me well and I’m learning a lot more. I am able to plumb sinks, urinals, and toilets right here in the shop,” says Terrence Anderson, first-year apprenticeship student from Syracuse High School.
For more details, contact Bryce Chapman, DATC Apprenticeship Coordinator, at 801-593-2346 or plan to attend the Open House on Thursday, April 29, 2010 from 6-8 p.m. in Room 1051.
