19 DATC Students Win Gold

Students from Davis Applied Technology College (DATC), a UCAT campus, competed in the Region 2 SkillsUSA Championships on Thursday, February 10, 2011 at DATC. Out of those competing, 19 DATC students placed first and will have the chance to go head-to-head with other regional winners at the state competition in March.

-       Rachel Stock – Architectural Drafting, Post-Secondary

-       Royal Hafen – Technical Drafting, Post-Secondary

-       Samantha Carlsen – Commercial Baking, Secondary

-       Brittany Butler – Commercial Baking, Post-Secondary

-       Randy Bodily – Food & Beverage Service, Post-Secondary

-       Ray Jewell – Computer Maintenance Technology, Post-Secondary

-       Hilary Mortensen – Cosmetology, Secondary

-       HideeStarr Ortega – Cosmetology, Post-Secondary

-       Jennifer Moore – Nail Care, Post-Secondary

-       Oliver Meyers – Culinary Arts, Secondary

-       Kevin Eggleston  – Culinary Arts, Post-Secondary

-       Jeremiah Tanner – Automotive Service Technology, Post-Secondary

-       Andrew Jex –Diesel Equipment Technology, Secondary

-       Brian Gibson – Diesel Equipment Technology, Post-Secondary

-       David Tennant – Welding, Secondary

-       Alec Deru – Welding, Post-Secondary

 

Steve Berger, DATC Drafting Instructor and SkillsUSA Coordinator, was pleased to be part of the competition. He feels the contests provide students unique opportunities to learn real-world skills.

Berger states, “SkillsUSA builds self-confidence and allows students to express themselves. It also gives them an opportunity to lead and help others become self-sufficient.”

First place winners will have the opportunity of competing in the State SkillsUSA Championships on March 24 and 25 at Salt Lake Community College. From there, winners compete in the National SkillsUSA Championships held in Kansas City, MO the last week of June.
