Academic Development
ADULT HIGH SCHOOL/GED PREPARATION
This class provides adults with an opportunity to acquire a high school diploma or GED while enrolled in technical training.
ACADEMIC DEVELOPMENT LAB
Students are taught the basic academic skills which include math, reading, language, spelling, writing and study skills. The Development Lab offers all students computers with desktop support in Microsoft Office and WordPerfect.
ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (ESL)
ESL consists of beginning to advanced English speaking, listening, reading, and writing in a small group format.
JOB SEEKING SKILLS
Students research prospective employers, create a personal training portfolio based upon experience and skills, and prepare job applications, resumes, and cover letters. Students learn interviewing skills and successful follow-up techniques to set them apart in the job market.
MATHEMATICS
Students learn math in interactive ways through a combination of individual one-on-one instruction and online training. Math I consists of general math and program-related math. Math II and III are Algebra classes. Students may submit College transcripts to Weber State University for Math 950, 960 and 1010 to satisfy these course requirements.
TECHNICAL COMMUNICATION
Students strengthen their writing skills, enhance their ability to communicate, learn the grammatical rules of English, improve their writing style, and write workplace communications. Writing courses include Business English, Technical Writing, Business Communication and Small Business Management: Writing Business Plans.
WORKPLACE RELATIONS
Students learn key workplace communication skills, including writing, speaking, listening, teamwork, diversity, personal ethics, conflict management, problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
