Objectives of the American Sign Language-Interpreting program include understanding the history and terminology of sign language interpreting, the roles and responsibilities of interpreters, navigating ethical scenarios, relevant legislation, developing interpreting skills necessary to pass state and/or national certification exams, and externship experiences with certified interpreters.

There exists a significant demand for interpreters to work in a variety of settings including educational, medical, legal, business and private/personal positions. Additionally, individuals with Utah Novice certification seeking to advance to the professional level can receive instruction focusing on skills required to pass the professional certification exam.
