Diesel / Heavy Duty Mechanic
In the Diesel/Heavy Duty Mechanic program, students learn to perform all duties of preventive maintenance and electrical troubleshooting on diesels. Students can specialize in areas of transmissions, differential, brakes, steering, suspension, wheel alignment, air conditioning, hydraulics and small diesel engine rebuild. A student can also specialize in additional areas through the College's partnership training. The diesel technology field is for students who are self motivated and enjoy working with their hands, yet enjoy the challenge of working with sophisticated equipment.
Through the Volvo/Mack partnership, students are introduced to the latest advances in the trucking industry. Volvo/Mack training provides familiarization in engine design, micro-processing, air conditioning, and transmissions. DATC is home to the only Volvo/Mack partnership site in the United States. With this partnership, a student receives "factory authorized" training and obtains an industry recognized certificate while completing studies in the Diesel/Heavy Duty Mechanic program.
