Shaley Stevens, Sheer Envy Salon

Shaley Stevens knew she wanted to be a cosmetologist even at a young age because of her passion for doing hair. Once she graduated from high school, most of her friends went to college, but Shaley still felt that cosmetology was where she should focus her attention, so she began researching different schools. “DATC had the lowest tuition and a really flexible schedule so that I could work and go to school, plus it was close to home.”

From her first day at DATC, Shaley knew she was in the right place. “I love learning everything there is to know about cosmetology and I was surprised to find that I even like doing nails.” Shaley feels she has an advantage over students attending other cosmetology programs because of the comprehensive training she received at DATC. “Even though it took me two years to get through 2,000 hours, I love that DATC makes sure you learn everything you need to know to get your license. I can do basic esthetics, nail technology, and hair, making me more valuable to my clients.”

Shaley graduated in July 2010 and is now working at Sheer Envy salon. “I love it and I feel prepared because the instructors at DATC were so helpful and each taught in a different way, so I was able to learn something new every day.” Shaley feels she has a broad enough knowledge to take on any client. She is also confident that the education she received will assist her in earning enough money to support herself and make other choices in the future. “Even if I want to go to college down the road, I now have this career to help pay for school.”
